About the Course:
Become a swim instructor in just nine days. This course provides candidates with the training that they need to plan and conduct courses within the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety guidelines. The curriculum covers teaching progressions, lesson planning, recognizing common skill errors, and providing corrective feedback. Through video and hands-on skill building, the course features clearly described and applied teaching strategies. Upon successful completion of all activities and written exams, students will receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate.
There is a physical pre-course skills test which takes place in the pool and must be passed in order to take the course. Please bring a notebook and pen/pencil to each class. Rates include a $25 non-refundable deposit in the event that a participant does not pass the pre-course skills test and is ineligible for the training program. Advanced registration required.

Pre-Course Skills Tested:
- Swim the following strokes consistent with Level 4:
- Front crawl – 25 yards
- Back crawl – 25 yards
- Breaststroke – 25 yards
- Elementary backstroke – 25 yards
- Sidestroke – 25 yards
- Butterfly – 15 yards
- Maintain position on back in deep water for 1 minute floating or sculling.
- Tread water for 1 minute.
