Swim Lesson Instructor In-Training Course

(ages 15-16)

About the Course:

Participants will gain valuable leadership experience working with certified Water Safety Instructors in all swim levels from ages 6 months to adult in preparation to take the American Red Cross (ARC) Water Safety Instructor exam.  Participants will learn how to teach the following ARC swim levels: parent and child, preschool, learn to swim, and adult beginner.  We will cover aquatic skills, strokes, entries, starts, turns, dives, and safety.  Students will learn how to create lesson plans, communicate with parents, identify a swimmer’s correct swim level, and how to assist people with disabilities or health conditions.

Before you are eligible to enroll in this program, you must be interviewed and pass a pre-course skills test.  You must contact Joyce Dynia 10 days before the session start date in order to set those up. Please contact her at 203.431.2755 or at recwellness@ridgefieldct.org.

Completion of this program does not guarantee future employment. Participants will have an opportunity to register for the Water Safety Instructor Course (ages 16+) offered in February and June at a discounted rate.  The pre-skills test will be waived.
