Safety Alert and Advisory

Safety Alerts:

• Cross pond swimming is no longer available.
• The beach will close during episodes of thunder and lightning.  If the beach must close, passes will be honored at the Recreation Center pool.

Safety Advisory:

• The water quality of Great Pond is excellent, providing one of the best pond swims in the state.  To ensure this, the water is tested weekly.  Occasionally, the State Department of Health may advise us to close the swim area during the season.  In that event, we will do our best to keep the beach open and provide sprinklers.
• The water conditions may cause a contact rash, "swimmers ich", which is a product of a healthy natural ecosystem.  Attempting to treat the natural phenomenon would endanger the pond and water quality.  The best way to avoid “swimmers itch” is to shower, rinse and towel off thoroughly after each contact with water – even when wading.
