Clay: Open Studio for Middle Schoolers

(grades 6-8)
Clay Middle School

About the Course:

Bring your creativity to the “Art Room” at the Recreation Center.  Be inspired by the creative work around us by famous and up-and-coming artists in museums and galleries both local and worldwide.  Let the environment inspire you to create a bowl, pot or sculpture.  Build on your clay experience at school and explore different clay techniques – sculpting, coil, pinch, relief, slab, and extruded.  Experiment with textures, patterns, layers, colored slips, and various glaze techniques.  We will incorporate wire, string, and other non-clay materials to finished projects.

Instructor Michelle Beyman believes art and creating with clay is great for the mind, fingers, and soul.  For more information, please contact Michelle at 203.247.0478 or at
